The parents of many children who go to school in the Copper River School District remember "the good old days" when THEY went to school in Glennallen. There was no lunch program.
It wasn't until 1999 that the district reinstated an actual school lunch program. For years, the standard American "school lunch" just wasn't on the CRSD list of things that local schools provided as a matter of course.
Nowadays, though, school lunches are a part of local schooling in the Copper Valley. Even when the pandemic struck and led to remote schooling in spring, lunches were made available to all students, delivered throughout the district.

Nowadays, though, school lunches are a part of local schooling in the Copper Valley. Even when the pandemic struck and led to remote schooling in spring, lunches were made available to all students, delivered throughout the district.
As the fall school season approaches, the district wants to remind parents that school lunches will not be delivered to families who choose the "remote" learning option.
To review – you have three basic options this fall:
- "Traditional" (which means actually going to school physically)
- "Remote" (which means working with school teachers here but from home), and
- "Homeschooling" (which is the standard homeschool system and can be either locally-based or from some other outside provider.
If a family chooses the remote option for their respective student, lunches will not be delivered like they were this past spring when CRSD went into a complete remote situation. In the unfortunate event that we re-experience a complete remote situation, CRSD will be working with the Department of Education to possibly re-establish this service for families in our community."
