CRSD Board Decides Schools Will Open On Monday, August 31st At Emergency Meeting

CRSD Web Page, August 24th, 2020.
With only one full day until school was scheduled to start on Wednesday, August 26th, the CRSD School Board held an emergency meeting, called on short notice, for 5 pm Monday, August 24th.

The Board decided at the meeting to postpone the start of school until Monday, August 31st – "and will add an in-service day to Friday, September 4th."

At least one member of the school district staff has already been found to have COVID-19, and a number of staff members have been quarantined for the disease.

The Copper River School District's board also decided at the emergency meeting to designate the district "critical infrastructure" and to ensure "guidelines and protocols" for classroom safety.

The Country Journal has asked the District for a definition of what this means in practical terms for parents, teachers and students.

PRESS RELEASE -

The Board of Education had an emergency meeting tonight to address several comments and concerns that have come from administrators, teachers, and staff.

The first change was to the school calendar. The change included a delay of the school start date to Monday, August 31st, and will add an in-service day to Friday, September 4. This will allow our quarantined staff to be back full time and will allow for additional time for training and getting the classrooms ready.

The Board also voted to designate the Copper River School District as a critical infrastructure. This allows for additional guidelines and protocols to safely ensure our students can get back into the classrooms.

As a reminder, situations, as they relate to COVID-19, are ever-changing. Please make sure you ask questions and communicate through your school administrators.

School zoom meetings will continue to occur on Tuesdays at noon. Please visit the CRSD website for meeting details.
