The Fairbanks North Star Borough has canceled all in-school physical activities, closed buildings to students, and cancelled all sports events, extracurricular activities, field trips and inter-group events as of August 31st. Fairbanks has been in what is known as a COVID-19 "Operational Red Zone.{ This means that there's an average of 10 or more daily cases per one hundred thousand people in a place over the last two weeks.)

Notice on Fairbanks School District Website, Tuesday September 1st, 2020.

Meanwhile, several Mat-Su schools are moving in and out of distance learning. Colony High School and Colony Middle School shifted to remote learning on Tuesday, September 1st, and will probably resume in-person classes next Tuesday, says the district.

Pioneer Peak Elementary was also closed Tuesday. The Mat-Su Borough School District says coronavirus infections have been found among school children.
