Lack Of Safety In Communal Living, Close Contact

Fairbanks Correctional Center (State Of Alaska Site)

UPDATE: OCTOBER 21
By October 21, 55 people at the prison were found to have Covid-19.
It's not healthy, mingling around together right now. No matter where that might be. It's not safe for people in meat-packing and fish-processing plants. Or in bars. Or in the Governor's office in Downtown Anchorage. And it's not safe in "communal living places" in Alaska and anywhere else...places like jails, homeless shelters and nursing homes.
Over the weekend, 33 people tested positive for the coronavirus at Fairbanks Correctional Center on Saturday, October 17th. Thirty-two were men, and one was a woman.
All inmates and staff at the facility are now on 14 day quarantine status, and the ill have been isolated. There will be more tests at the jail on Monday.
The Department of Corrections said they expected this. In a press release they noted: “While we never wanted this day to come, the outbreak at FCC is an eventuality the Department has prepared for. Our focus at this point is on protecting those at the facility who are most vulnerable and identifying any additional cases in the institution.”
