What a difference a month makes. One month ago, in early October, 52 people were known to have had COVID-19 in the Copper River Valley.

Now, in early November, at least 93 people have gotten COVID-19.  The Copper River Native Association reports that, of those, 41 are actively sick.

The numbers of the stricken are lurching forward rapidly. Only a few days ago, last Friday, October 30th, the Copper River Native Association reported a dramatic increase in cases of COVID-19 in Copper River Country. Last Friday 86 people here had COVID-19. The virus had dragged itself across the countryside, hitting 34 local people in only 20 days.

That was a lot. But by Monday, several days later, on November 2nd, COVID-19 had found 6 more people to infect.

On Monday afternoon, 93 local residents had tested positive. Of course, because many people are asymptomatic (without symptoms) and testing is voluntary, the real number of infected people is surely higher.
