State Is Still In Phase 1A

The state of Alaska has prioritized the order in which people can receive vaccines. Vaccines are now being distributed in Alaska to persons in Phase 1A.

Phase 1A is divided into three "tiers." In general, it includes the most vulnerable Alaskans, including those at long term care facilities and hospital-based health care workers. Other tiers include frontline EMS and fire service personnel, community health aides and health care workers who have direct patient or infectious material contact.

The next vaccines will go to people in Phase 1B, which has four tiers. First in line are Alaskans who are 65 and older. This group is an "at-risk" group in America. Only around 16% of Americans are in this age group, but 80% of the people who die from COVID-19 are over 65. (In a practical sense, inoculating this age group is the most cost-effective thing that can be done.)

The Copper River Native Association has begun telling locals in the 65 plus age group to contact the CRNA offices at 822-5241. When you call the CRNA number, your name, phone number and birth date will be written down.  CRNA says it will then contact you in a week or so to update you on vaccine scheduling.

Here's the breakdown of Phase 1B, as announced on December 31st:

TIER 1

Ages 65 and older

TIER 2

Teachers, store workers, postal workers

TIER 3

Ages 55 to 64.

People in "unserved" communities.

People aged 16 to 50 with 2 or more high risk health conditions.

TIER 4

People 50 years old with 2 or more high-risk health conditions
