Vaccines Must Be Used To Open Economy

Dr. Anthony Fauci: Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Answered Questions On Many Sunday, February 21st.

On The Death Toll Of Americans Being 1/2 Million By February 22nd In Spite Of Modern Medicine
Fauci said: "Stunning -- Horrible... we're still not out of it. This is a devastating pandemic". We "haven't seen anything close to this in well over 100 years."

On The Winter Storm Having Slowed Delivery of Vaccines To Southern States
Fauci said: "By the middle of this week we will have caught up."

On Whether One Shot Is Good Enough
Fauci said: "The second shot gives a boost. When you give a boost you increase the power or level of the antibodies by at least 10 fold. So you're talking about a big increase."

On Whether Pregnant Women Should Get Vaccinated
Fauci said: "Right now we don't see any red flag signals among those thousands of people who have gotten vaccinated while pregnant."

On What Risk An Unvaccinated Teacher Is Taking
Fauci said: "We don't know yet. I have a daughter who is doing just that (teaching without being vaccinated.) The default position is that we should get (children) back to school safely."

On Why Cases Are Dropping
Fauci said: "We are seeing a steep slope, but the baseline of infections is still very, very high. It isn't the 300 to 400,000 that we were at some time ago, but we want to get that baseline really, really, really low before we start thinking we are out of the woods."

On Why Vaccination Is Good For You, Your Community & Your Country
Fauci said: "Getting vaccinated is "not only good for you and your family and your community, it will have a very important impact on the dynamics of the outbreak in our country."

On Whether Vaccination Can Stop The Spread
Meanwhile new studies show the first evidence that vaccines can help stop the spread of COVID-19. The No. 1 "looming question," Fauci said, is: "Does vaccine prevent transmission?" There are now two studies which are early signs pointing toward a "yes."
