Valdez Experiences Large Spike In Covid-19 Cases. Schools Are On Distance Learning, City Staff Working From Home

About one out of every 40 people who live in the town of Valdez are known to have active cases of Covid-19 at this time. The city listed 95 residents, 4 non-residents and 6 "other" Alaskans) as currently sick with Covid on October 20th in Valdez. 

The city's overall population was listed in the 2020 U.S. Census at 3,903 residents.

Initially, like many small communities in Alaska, Valdez did a good job of holding the virus at bay. But now, the city's Covid -19 Case Count Dashboard for October 20th, 2021 shows that well over one out of every 10 residents in Valdez have already been sickened by the pandemic. 

Valdez is located south of the Copper River Valley on the Richardson Highway. 

NOTE: Figures are always based on people who get tested and officially are listed as having Covid. Those who do not get tested and are sick with the disease are not counted. 


CITY OF VALDEZ SETS DRIVE-THRU TESTING IN PLACE ON OCTOBER 24TH, 25TH & 26TH, 2021 

To try to keep the surge in check, there will be drive-thru testing clinics on October 24th, 25th and 26th at the Valdez Civic Center. 

City Of Valdez Declared a Disaster At The End of September, 2021

On September 29th, the Valdez City Council held meetings to discuss the Covid-19 situation and the status of Valdez's branch of Providence Hospital. The City declared a pandemic-related local government disaster declaration.  


City Issued A Public Notice About Non-Essential City Staff Working From Home Starting October 19th 




Valdez City Schools Are On Distance Learning For 10 Days Due To The Ongoing Surge In The Pandemic
