Alaska To Institute  3-Step Process With Voting Dates On June 11th, August 16th & November 8th, 2022 To Replace Don Young

The first vote is a primary for a temporary replacement. It will be held on June 11th. Although you will be able to vote in person at some locations two weeks before June 11th, every registered voter will be mailed a mail-in ballot with a stamped return envelope.

People who vote in the June 11th primary will vote for only one person.

The top 4 vote-getters from June 11th will then appear on a special ballot on primary day, August 16th. The actual selection of Don Young's temporary replacement will take place on that date, as part of the primary day ballot.

That person will only fill Young's seat from the time they are declared the winner, using the state's new ranked voting system, until they are replaced by the winner of another election, to take place in November.

As part of the state's primary day, August 16th, you will not only vote for who will temporarily replace Don Young – but you will also vote for candidates for his permanent seat, to appear on the November ballot.

Apparently, around 20 people have already expressed interest in appearing on the June 11th ballot. Governor Mike Dunleavy says he's not one of them.
