Free-For-All Race For Young's Seat

The votes are coming in. As of Sunday evening, June 12th, 2022, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (followed by Nick Begich and Al Gross) is leading the pack for Don Young's seat in Congress. The fourth runner-up is apparently Mary Pelota. Young died in March, after decades in Congress.

This race is unique. A varied slew of candidates signed up (including Santa Claus from North Pole) and all of them were on the ticket.

Voters were mailed ballots. Each voter was allowed one vote in the first runoff.

This is the first "rank choice" election in Alaska. It has drawn quite a bit of attention in the Lower 48, due to its wild and unusual format.

On August 16th, there will be a general election, featuring the top four.
