April 27th! That's The Day (Two Years In A Row) When The Ice Goes Out In Nenana...

The ice went out on the Tanana River in the little railroad town of Nenana on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, at 3:56 pm. The tripod fell over, pulled a rope, and stopped a clock. One or more people will be winning a lot of money as a prize if they accurately guessed the correct time this happened.

The Nenana Ice Classic was a gambling game that began in 1917, as bored railroad workers whiled away the spring, waiting for the ice to go out and the work season to begin.

The winner (or winners) this year haven't yet been determined. Last year, the prize was over $210,000.

That prize was one by a single person, who accurately guessed the ice would go out on April 27th, 2024 – at 5:18 am.
