Mile 92 Richardson Highway Fire Is Out
Eight Miles South Of Copper Center
On Monday, June 27th, 2022, at 3:25 pm, State Forestry, with an engine on patrol, reported a column of smoke in the distance. Two Forestry engines got to the fire, at Mile 92 of the Richardson. An air attack "gave an initial fire size-up" Forestry said.
Forestry wrote on the state website on Tuesday, June 28th:
Upon initial size up, fire was 1 acre with rank 3 fire behavior, as well as structures within a mile of the fire, and additional resources were ordered. Ground personnel found the fire to be 0.5 acres with rank 2-3 fire behavior, and conducted initial attack while other resources were inbound.
The Incident Commander on scene established unified command with Kenny Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Along with ground personnel and air attack one tanker, two scoopers, one helicopter and six jumpers responded. All resources worked to extinguish flames and secure the edge with water and saw line.
All area personnel were released and six jumpers remained on scene on June 28th, for mop up and containment. Fire remained uncontained at that time.
