Shannon Stevens Of Haines Showed She's A Real Alaskan When She Went Public With The Most Ridiculous Bear Story... Ever

For years, there was a print of a popular painting in the hallway at Eureka Lodge. It showed a Pipeline worker, racing from the woods with a bear right behind him. The toilet paper was flying, as he pulled up his trousers.

If there's one thing Alaskans find really funny, it's outhouses.

The second thing is bears. And the REALLY funniest thing you can do is pair the two of them.

(As long as you don't get seriously hurt in the process.)

Shannon Stevens in Haines was out at her brother's elevated yurt, taking a winter break near Haines, when she went to the outhouse and got bitten.

She didn't know what had happened until her brother took his headlamp, peered down the hole, and saw a winter bear looking up at him.

A real Alaskan, Shannon couldn't help but tell the world. Especially since she wasn't badly injured.

Her story has gone – as they say – "viral." You can read about it all over the web.

Outhouses and bears – and Alaska.  Adding a bit of light to an otherwise intense winter.
