On 12/21/21 at approximately 1653 hours Tok AST was made aware of a motor vehicle collision occurring on the Tok Cutoff approximately 60 miles south of Tok. AST responded along with EMS from Slana and located the crash near mile 58 of the Tok Cutoff. Investigation revealed Malachi Cauldwell, age 19 of Palmer, was traveling northbound in a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and collided with a Case backhoe, being operated by Wayne MacMurray, age 75 of Slana. Two passengers in Cauldwell's vehicle, one of which was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Slana EMS. Both drivers were later issued citations relating to this incident. Alcohol was not a factor in this crash.
