Survival Gear

December, 1993

It never seems too repetitive to keep telling people how to survive the climate. In December, 1993, the Country Journal put forth a suggestion:

No matter how you travel this winter, take a moment to think before you head out -- even in your car or snow machine.  Always let somebody know where you're going and when you'll get back. Take warm gear with you, including boots, mittens, hat, snowsuit, socks, and a sleeping bag, tent or tarp.

Take high energy bars or salmon strips or jerky to keep your body going if something happens. Have provisions for drinking something -- perhaps an all metal thermos full of fluid. matches and fire starter, a flare, and use a marked trail. Finally, don't use alcohol or drugs.
