The Native Village of Gakona cordially invites you, your tribal members, staff, students, and citizens to attend the upcoming Tribal Court Administration course (TG F115, CRN: 76864). This in-person training will be held from November 7–9, 2026, at the Buster Gene Memorial Hall located at Mile 4.8 on the Tok Cutoff.
Taught by instructor Michelle Demmert, J.D., this course provides a comprehensive look at the key concepts and strategies related to the effective administration and operation of tribal justice systems in Alaska. Attendance offers an excellent professional development opportunity, with an option for participants to earn 1 UAF college credit that applies toward the Occupational Endorsement for Tribal Justice.
The course schedule is as follows:
- Saturday, Nov 7: 12:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.
- Sunday, Nov 8: 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
- Monday, Nov 9: 9:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.
To ensure a successful event for our entire community, we are asking for your help and collaboration with the following:
- Participation Tracking: If your tribe, school, or organization plans to participate, please let us know how many attendees you expect to send so we can prepare adequate space and materials.
- Food Sponsorship: We are currently seeking community sponsors or organizational partners to help cover the cost of meals and refreshments for attendees over this three-day course. Please let us know if your organization is able to sponsor.
- Local Scholarships: The Native Village of Gakona will cover registration costs for Gakona tribal members and staff. We highly encourage neighboring tribes, schools, and organizations to consider providing scholarships or travel support to their own members and personnel to help them take advantage of this educational opportunity.
For more information, to discuss sponsorship, or to register, please contact Ashley Hicks-Martin at ashley@nvgakona.com or call 907-822-1093.
Thank you for your dedication to strengthening our tribal justice systems, and we look forward to coming together this November.
