JUNEAU TO HOLD ON-LINE CLASSES ONLY
In a bid for a "stable plan" the Juneau School District has abandoned its idea of having a mix of online and in-school classes. On August 4th Juneau Schools announced that the district will start with distance learning on August 24th. The Juneau School Superintendent, Dr. Bridget Weiss, said this supplied "a consistent schedule that families can plan around." School in Juneau starts August 24th.
KENAI PENINSULA SCHOOLS OFFER SEVERAL OPTIONS, REQUIRE MASKS
If you're between kindergarten and 12th grade in a Kenai Peninsula school you'll be going to school with a face mask. So will all satff. The school district is reducing its furniture in classrooms. The district is offering 3 options: In-person schooling, remote learning through a neighborhood school and homeschooling.
MAT-SU SCHOOLS REQUIRE MASKS
School in the Mat-Su starts August 19th. It's reported that students will be required to wear masks between grades 3 and 12.
ANCHORAGE SCHOOLS ON-LINE AT START OF YEAR
Anchorage is considered "high risk" as the school year approaches – which has led the school district to decide to start the school year August 20th with "on-line" schooling only. "ASD will continue to monitor the community health risk on a daily basis and will make another risk-level determination the week prior to Labor Day," said Superintendent Deena Bishop. The school district originally planned to hold in-person classes two days a week during August, and then switch to 5 days a week – but the daily cases in Anchorage were lower back then when they first settled on that in-person concept. Anchorage far outstrips the rest of the state now in virus cases.
