GM Says All Its New Vehicles Will Switch Electric Or Hydrogen Power

General Motors said this week that it is phasing out the internal combustion engine over the next 15 years.

Although GM was already planning to introduce 30 new battery-electric vehicles in the next few years, the company has now committed to completely phasing out gas and diesel engines for its light-duty vehicles.

This includes SUVs and pickups. The company said it's also going to have "clean technology" on its heavy duty trucks.

The company says it will have emissions-free battery and hydrogen powertrains.

The company will be using renewable energy at its U.S. factories by 2035, too. It's looking at solar power, wind power, hydrogen power and carbon capture as new forms of technology.

Ford Motor Company is also making a major push on electric cars.
