21 Year Old Anchorage Man Dies At Eureka After Striking A Moose In Middle Of The Night

At 2:35 am on May 24th, 2021, Hawk Ladra, 21 of Anchorage, was killed when his 2008 Ford Fusion struck a moose at Mile 128 of the Glenn Highway. The incident took place at Eureka Summit.

Troopers said the moose came onto the road, and Ladra struck it, then drifted off the roadway and stopped 200 feet off the Glenn Highway a quarter mile from impact.

Hawk Ladra was declared dead at the scene, Troopers said.

He had two passengers in the car – a 14-year old girl and an 18-year old girl. The 18-year old had serious injuries and was medevaced by helicopter to Anchorage. The 14-year old was taken to Palmer with minor injuries, Troopers said.

With the coming of summer there have been more vehicular accidents on rural Alaska roads surrounding the Copper River Valley and elsewhere.
