INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY

The state of Alaska has the largest percentage of Native Americans, per population numbers, of any state in the union. Around 20% of all Alaskans are Native. That means around 146,000 Native people live in Alaska. 

Other states have more Native American residents, though. For example, California. Around 758,000 Native people live in California. But California is a huge state, and all those Native American people make up less than 2% of California's total population.

In the Copper River Valley, roughly 23% of the people who live here in the Ahtna region are Native American.
