Local Program Is Awarded $560,000

The Ahtna Cultural Heritage Youth Program has been awarded $560,000. It's for a program that promotes federal-tribal "co-stewardship" and expands job opportunities for Ahtna Native youth says a September 11th, 2023 Department of Interior press release.

These are the first grants of their kind.

Additional program coordination support will be provided by the National Park Service. Wrangell-St. Elias National Park is in Ahtna Country, in the Copper River Valley.

The program in the Copper Valley is part of nearly $3.5 million in 2023 Indian Youth Service Corps grants to eight projects.
