Rundown Of Panthers Games By Jubilee Heinbaugh
After not being in the gym for nearly a week due to the school weather closures, the high school girls basketball team stepped foot on the court to compete in the Lumen Christi Invitational Tournament on December 14th.
The Panthers played the 3A school from Houston on Thursday at 3:00PM. The Panthers started off strong and took the lead, but Houston came back and pulled ahead. We were down by 3 with under a minute, but we were unable to tie the game and thus had to foul in an attempt to get the ball back.
Houston made all 4 of their free-throws and won 32-25. We then faced Kodiak, a 4A school, in our second game. We had a large lead going into the 2nd half against Kodiak. Kodiak fought back and hit several three point baskets, but the Panthers were still able to secure the lead with the help of Cheyenne Field's 20 points and Teagan Rude contributing 10. The score was 42-34, with the Glennallen Varsity Girls Basketball team winning.
Against Seward the Panthers faced a strong 1-3-1 defense and struggled to keep pace with a fast Seward team. The Seahawks took a 20-10 lead in the first half and held the lead the rest of the game with a Panther loss of 31-43.
The next games will be on January 5th at 5:30 pm and 6th at 9:00 am against Ninilchik and then Cook Inlet Academy at those schools.
