450-Lb. Polar Bear Was Sedated &
Then Got A Root Canal

Actual Dentist Worked On Team That Did The Operation, Zoo Reports

Kova, a 4-year old polar bear at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage, has had a root canal. Zoo staff saw she looked uncomfortable, and checked her out, including having her mouth get an X-ray.

An unnamed local dentist did the honors.

The Alaska Zoo has an excellent outreach system to the public. Wild animals are a constant source of interest, and every time one of its creatures has something crazy going on, the Zoo staff tells the public.

For example, in April last year the Zoo showed – in an extensive series of photos – how its bears were capable of demolishing 'bear resistant' trashcans. It was quite a hit.
