The Spring Race Is A Shorter Version Of The CB300
CB100 Started And Ended At Eureka

Musher Sean de Wolski was the 1st place winner of the inaugural 2026 Copper Basin 100 dog sled race, which was held on Friday and Saturday, March 27th and 28th, 2026.

The new 100-mile race was first conceived in 2024. Initially, it was to be a 100-mile race, similar to the CB300, but shorter, mainly for people under the age of 18.

But there were not enough young mushers. So the race was reconfigured, with two categories – one for those under 18, and the other for adults. Two junior mushers were in the race this year.

Initially, 11 adults signed up for the race, but only 9 showed up at the start line. Snow conditions this season have been good. Last year, the inaugural race was planned for April, 2025. It had to be cancelled due to snow issues.

Here's a look at the race results:

CB100 RACE RESULTS

  • 1st Place: Sean de Wolski
  • 2nd Place: Eddie Burke Jr.
  • 3rd Place: Joanna Weber
  • Sportsmanship Award: Noah Spies
  • Golden Rake Award: Sarah Lewis
  • Veterinary Care Award: Noah Spies

On Friday, the mushers headed out of Eureka on a 50-mile loop to the southwest, and then past Gunsight, and north to Caribou Creek Trail. The first leg was a 50-mile loop, back to Eureka, where there was a 6-hour mandatory rest stop behind the roadhouse on the lake before tackling another 50 miles.

The CB100 is deliberately far less arduous than the 300-mile long CB300, which parallels many of the hardships of the longer Iditarod Race. In the CB100, mushers were allowed to rest in tents, in their trucks, our outdoors on the snow, with their dogs. They had access to water.

The following people were listed on March 27th by race officials as the mushers of the CB100. Local Copper Valley mushers were Bruce Carlton and Nathan Helmer.
