NASA'S Going On A Round-the-Moon Mission April 1st
March 31st, 2026
It's been 50 years since the U.S. went to the moon in a rocket. Every time anything like that happened, back in the old days, it was big news for months. The countdowns and liftoffs were shown on TV. The issues the astronauts had while up there, or before they left, were breathlessly reported, in real time, on TV and the radio and newspapers and magazines.
The astronauts' wives and their many kids were shown, sitting on the couch, watching their husbands and daddies on their dangerous missions, on TV. Everybody knew all the astronauts' names. They were superstars.
It was one of those things that everyone had a handle on. It would be impossible not to be aware.
But today?
Did you know we're having a moon launch on April 1st, 2026?
That the Artemis II mission will send the first crew in 50 years on a fly-around of the moon, on a planned 10-day trip? That there will be four astronauts on the trip: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen?
The Apollo 10 crew of 1969 reached the most distant point of orbit around the back of the moon, going farther than any other humans from the surface of the earth.
The last landing on the moon of a crew was Apollo 17, in 1972.
Four years ago, in 2022, NASA sent the first unmanned Artemis I mission around the moon.
