Dedicated Hawk Watchers Set Up Deck Chairs In The Snow
 On The Glenn Highway, 120 Miles From Anchorage  

Every spring, bird watchers drive up the Glenn Highway near Eureka for the annual HawkWatch. This is the northernmost hawk-counting site in the world. It has large groups of red-tailed hawks, golden eagles and rough-tailed hawks, typically passing through every snowy spring.

The Hawk Migration Association keeps close tabs on the number of birds seen on a daily basis. Here's a look at their tabulation site for Gunsight Mountain's event:
