What's In A Name?

Alaska USA
Will Now Be Known As "Global Credit Union"

Founded over 70 years ago in 1948, Alaska USA has 67 branches in Alaska, Arizona, California and Washington state, and nearly 2,000 employees. According to its website, Alaska USA serves more than 700,000 members.

Alaska USA has merged with Global Credit Union, which serves only 45,000 members, has 12 branches in Washington state and Idaho, and three branches in Italy on U.S. military bases, the site says.

Although the decision has met with some support by users of the credit union, others  have not been that happy with the decision.

On its Facebook site, some said:

I’ve had an AKUSA account for a number of years. I’ll admit that I have managed most finances with another entity lately, and held onto my old AKUSA account for sentimental reasons. The name change was the wake up call to fully make the move. The change reads like you are embarrassed of your AK roots and are changing your name to try to fit in on the “global” scene.

You guys just ruined what made your bank special, why I stuck with you, this feels so distant and without any neighborly feeling to it. Cold
