Good Samaritan Finds 40-Year-Old Chitina Resident Levi Simmonds Dead in The Road At Mile 32 Of The Edgerton

On August 7, 2023, at 11:23 pm, the Alaska State Troopers were notified that a driver had discovered an injured male laying in the roadway at mile 32 of the Edgerton Highway. Troopers and EMS responded to the scene.
Despite lifesaving efforts performed by the good samaritan that located the man, 40-year-old Chitina resident Levi Simmonds was declared deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by responding Troopers revealed that Simmonds was struck by a vehicle as he was walking on the roadway. The vehicle that struck Simmonds did not stop to render aid and did not notify first responders.
Simmonds’ body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, and his next of kin have been notified. The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.
