Driver Apparently Uninjured

NOVEMBER 20, 2023

A  2004 Ford pickup, hitting black ice, crashed through a guardrail on the brand new Muldoon Road overpass in Anchorage. The vehicle fell, upside down, onto the Glenn Highway below.

The overpass leads to the shopping mall that houses the new Costco Business Center (the former Sam's Club), at Tikahtnu Commons. It also leads to JBER.

The pickup tore out the guard rail. News reports say that the pickup fell on its roof into the Glenn, but that the driver appeared to not be seriously injured.

Apparently, speed was not a factor. There has been almost 40 inches of accumulated snow in Anchorage, and roadways are reported to be in very poor condition.

The new Muldoon overpass is a convoluted tangle of intertwined highways.

The Anchorage Daily News reported that the week before a chunk of ice fell off the overpass and fell through a windshield of a car passing below on the Glenn, injuring the driver.
