THE LONG ROAD HOME

Notice From Valdez Convention Bureau, "Discover Valdez"

August 12th, 2025

ON BEHALF OF

DISCOVER VALDEZ:

We regret to inform our valued members that RAVN has closed its doors, effective immediately.

Hello, Members:

With RAVN Alaska’s notification today, Aug. 11th (the notifications of closure began today), I was just made aware that our Tourism season is facing a reality. We no longer have air service traveling to Valdez.

Today: Ravn Air cancelled all flights and closed (dating the closure as of the 7th of Aug. on the website) They just notified fliers (my in-laws at Seattle airport).

We will keep everyone posted as any new information unfolds. I will be meeting with City officials to discuss other opportunities that may be available to us. We wait to see if Kenai Aviation or Aleutian are going to pick up the slack and offer assistance.

Kenai Aviation’s CEO Jacob Caldwell and I conversed at the beginning of this situation in June. He assured me that though they were very busy, they may be able to pull out a few supporting aircrafts. I will find out further if this is an option when speaking with City Representatives.da

We have now pivoted toward road travelers and in-state for the remainder of the season. As of this spring, we had already made a marked increased into this year’s RV travelers advertising, and after a great membership discussion this June have already pivoted to promote Valdez to the military in a fantastic new in-state military campaign.

We will continue to triage the current situation, supporting travelers with questions as they contact the Center and to find additional solutions.
