Glenn Highway Mudslide Is Being Worked On Round The Clock

Muddy Creek Area, June 25, 2024. (DOT Facebook)
DOT UPDATE, 5:04 PM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16TH, 2025
The mudslide began Tuesday, October 14th. A small amount of mud went onto the highway Tuesday night, but crews were able to quickly remove it.
Loaders are on site to keep the culvert at Packsaddle Creek open and prevent mudflows from backing up and onto the highway. This work is being done out of the Cascade M&O station, and flagging is taking place around the clock.
Muddy Creek experiences mud flows most years, typically in the fall and/or spring.
Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our M&O staff, we’ve been able to keep these events from significantly impacting the highway thus far.
DOT REPORT, 4:38 PM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16TH, 2025
Mat-Su Maintenance & Operations staff is engaging in 24-hour operations to keep a mudslide off the Glenn Highway, at Muddy Creek, and to keep the nearby culvert at Packsaddle Creek open. Drivers should expect flaggers between MP 94 and MP 95 of the Glenn Highway, with delays of up to 15 minutes, and be aware of crews and equipment working near the road.Mud flows are not currently impacting the highway. This area sees mud flows annually and it is something our maintenance crews keep a close eye on when the mud flows occur.
