The CDC estimates that there have 120,000 hospitalizations, 5,000 flu-related deaths, and 11 million illnesses this year in the U.S.
The flu activity level is rising across the nation at a rapid clip. This year's strain has been dubbed a "super flu', and targets and kills older people.
The flu shot that came out this year preceded this most virulent variety, but physicians say it does offer immunity.
As of Christmas, Alaska was already considered to be in the "very high" zone of activity.
A medicine known as Tamiflu can help tamp down the virus after you get it. Symptoms of flu include body aches, chills, fever, cough, sore throat and tiredness.
