On May 26, 2026, Alaska State Troopers responded to a 911 call in Gulkana reporting a domestic disturbance. An investigation determined that an altercation had occurred between Luis Elias, 32, of California, and an adult female. Evidence at the scene, along with witness statements and interviews, indicated the victim had been strangled during the incident and that a similar assault had occurred approximately two weeks earlier in Palmer. A juvenile in the home reported witnessing part of the prior incident. Based on the investigation, Elias was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree and two counts of Assault in the Presence of a Minor.
