The word on the street (and on the web) is that Omicron isn't as dangerous as prior Covid strains. But it's deadly for older Americans who are dying in disproportionately high numbers, not just nationally, but also in Alaska.
UPDATE: On March 2nd, 28 Alaska residents were listed as having died of Covid. All but one (or 96%) were over 50 years old.
On February 16th, the state of Alaska listed the ages of 27 Alaskans who had recently died of Covid, with 24 of the dead (89%) over 60 years old. The age breakdown for Alaskan deaths in the last week was as follows:
STATE BREAKDOWN, FEBRUARY 16TH, 20221 person in their 20s
2 people in their 50s
8 people in their 60s
6 people in their 70s

Nationally, statistics show 1 in every 100 older Americans has died of COVID since the pandemic began. People over 65 account for around 3/4 of the COVID deaths in the U.S.
