The Alaska Division of Elections held the runoff Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Nick Begich had come in third. His second choice votes were redistributed between Sarah Palin and Mary Peltola.

After they were redistributed, Peltola was declared the winner.

Peltola has earned a reputation as a positive campaigner. She's shown here with one of her 47 primary rivals, Santa Claus. (Peltola Facebook site)
