Location: Cordova

Type: SAR/Medevac

Dispatch Text:

On September 5, 2023, at 5:40 pm, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Cordova were notified that 67-year-old Cordova resident Harold Perantie had been found injured at his lodge near Cape Yakataga.

Good Samaritans including a medical provider staying at a nearby lodge responded by ATV, assessed Perantie and requested a medevac. A US Coast Guard helicopter responded to the area, however Perantie died prior to their arrival.

A preliminary investigation has determined that Perantie had fallen from the roof of a building at the lodge. No foul play is suspected at this time. His body was returned to Cordova and will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Next of kin has been notified.
