Unnamed Snowmachiner Evacuated To Anchorage Hospital

TROOPER REPORT

Location: Above Thompson Pass
Type: Search & Rescue

Dispatch Text:
On January 15, 2024, at 3:33pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an emergency SOS from a satellite communications device, in the mountainous terrain above Thompson Pass.

Subsequent communication revealed that a 37-year-old male suffered a broken arm while snowmachining and his party was unable to evacuate him. RCC was requested after nightfall limited DPS and civilian air recovery options.

Air assets were dispatched, located the patient, and transported him to an Anchorage area hospital. Valdez Fire responded to Thompson Pass and ensured the uninjured members of the party made it safely out of the mountains.
