ORIGINAL STORY
No Identifying Photographs Of Missing Child Released By Troopers

Morning of September 10th, 2024

Fifteen-year old Jona Schandelmeier, the teenage daughter of John Schandelmeier, has gone missing, Troopers say.

Years ago, John Schandelmeier was considered a Copper Valley person. He was the winner of the first Copper Basin 300, and successfully worked in search and rescue efforts near Paxson and the Denali Highway which were reported in the Copper River Country Journal.

The Schandelmeiers now live outside of Delta Junction (according to their Facebook page) and run a dog kennel.

A story in a 2021 posting on the Delta Wind newspaper shows Jona Schandelmeier from a distance in a junior dog sledding competition. But the Troopers have not apparently released a current photograph of the child for identification purposes.

There are also no details in the Trooper Report about where the family thinks she might have gone, a general written description of what she looks like, or what she was last wearing when she disappeared.

This is the Trooper Report:

Location: Delta Junction
Type: Missing Person

Dispatch Text:

On 09/09/2024 at approximately 2112 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Delta Junction received a report that Jona Schandelmeier, age 15 of Delta Junction, is missing. Anyone with information on  Schandelmeier whereabouts is urged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 907-895-4800.
