Alyeska Pipeline Receives Recognition For Removing Its Unused Pump Stations
Alyeska Pipeline has received the Alaska Oil & Gas Association Project Of The Year Award for its work in restoring the sites that once housed active oil pumping stations that are not now used.
These include what is commonly known in the Copper Valley and Valdez as "Pump 12" along the Richardson Highway.
A number of Copper Valley people once worked at Pump 12, out in the mountains.

The Pipeline once moved 700 million barrels of oil through the 800-mile pipe, and had eleven pump stations that moved it through the pipe from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. There is now far less oil moving through the tube.
Alyeska has removed equipment at Pump Stations 10 and 12, and is working on decommissioning Pump Stations 2 and 8. The oil company says it intends to take down Pump 6 and remove equipment at Pump Stations 1,3,4 and 9.
