On 09/11/2024 at approximately 1102 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle collision with injury in the Mentasta Lake area on the Tok Cutoff near mile 78. Dispatch advised; it appears to be a head on collision with injuries.
Investigation revealed a silver 2018 Kia sedan heading northbound observed an oncoming motorist in a maroon 2010 Ford Edge bearing AK plate JYA782 cross left of center and proceed to come head on.
The driver of the Kia made an attempt to favor the fog line but ultimately could not avoid the collision.
The driver of the Ford Edge was identified as Fabian M. Akerelrea, age 27. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were air lifted from 40 Mile Air in Tok for further medical treatment. Investigation is still ongoing pending driving Under the Influence Charges.
