New Copper River Country Journal Series On The Problems Of Using AI-Generated "Content"...

During the 1898 Gold Rush, incoming miners fell into the raging rivers of Ahtna Country all the time: the Copper, the Klutina, the Tonsina, the Tazlina...   They were killed by the swift torrents and the incredibly cold water. People from the Southland didn't understand our rivers, and were tempted to go out in them as if exploring the placid rivers back home.

It's over a hundred years later, but the rivers never change. They're still dangerous.

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) takes over the web, it has shown an alarming ability to scrub up trash off the internet and repackage it at a moment's notice into credible-sounding text when you Google in a few words. For visitors to our region, while poking around in Google, trying to find more about our rivers, the advice imparted by AI can be extremely dangerous.

To test what AI was saying about us, the Journal (acting like any visitor might) Googled up "Copper River" along with words like "swimming" or "safety".

We came up with ever-changing pronouncements written by AI robots that have nothing to do with the very real dangers of our environment. See the following alarming clips below, taken straight off the web.
