Glennallen Panthers Have A Strong Showing In Final Game Of The Year
Playing against a Seward team that last year was in the larger town (3A) bracket, Glennallen held its own through the first two quarters.
The grueling pace of playing three consecutive days on the road, with no time for sprains and bruises to heal, started taking its toll on Glennallen in the second half. Seward seemed to have a one-two-layup play that resulted in them chipping their way to a larger and larger lead.
Glennallen's defense was great throughout the game, but Seward was good at the free throw line and very good at making short baskets.
The final score was Seward 51 and Glennallen 29.

Glennallen Wins Their Semifinal Game Against The Chevak Comets 55 to 37 In A High Scoring Contest. (Chevak is a town of about 1,000 people in Western Alaska)
Chevak had gotten to the semifinals by beating the number one seeded Metlakatla (who were the 2A State Champs last year) on Thursday.
Unlike the Panther's game last night (see below) in the quarterfinals, this game was fast paced from the start. The Panthers were in control the whole game seemingly to allow Chevak consistent points only at the free throw line.
The Panthers led at half time and began to dominate during the third quarter. By the beginning of the fourth quarter it was clear that the game was out of reach for Chevak.
Although the Panthers have been doing very well at the State March Madness Basketball Championships, this is first time in several years that the Panthers have reached the top.
The 2A State Championship game will be held tomorrow (Saturday night) at 6:30 PM. The Panthers will play Seward for the State women's 2A title. Seward won its semifinal match this afternoon against Unalakleet 32 to 29.

Glennallen Lady Panthers Win Their Game Against The Haines Bears. 37 to 22
The first half was very low scoring, as both teams played good defense and their offenses just couldn't make any baskets. The Haines team came to life in the third quarter and took a six point lead. But then, the Panthers caught fire, took back the lead and didn't look back. As KCAM's announcers said "they turned on the jets".
Tomorrow, Number 4 seed Glennallen will play Chevak at 3:15 in the afternoon. Chevak, which as the Number 8 seed – going into the tournament – upset the Number 1 seed Metlakatla – 34 to 30.
The winner of the Chevak–Glennallen game will go to compete for the 2A State Championship on Saturday.
