Firefighters made progress overnight and into Tuesday morning on the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222), located approximately nine miles southwest of Tok. Cooler weather and light rain helped moderate fire behavior, rain in this region usually comes with lightning, and fire crews are alert for any new starts. The fire size is currently estimated at 1,373 acres.

Four dozers worked through the night to construct and improve fire lines, including a key stretch that now connects the north side of the fire to 7 Mile Corner. These dozer lines will help define a clear perimeter and create a fuel break. White Mountain Type 2 Initial Attack Crew remains engaged on the line and is actively working toward containment.

Yesterday, four spot fires were located outside of the main fire area. Thanks to quick action by firefighters, all four spots, totaling about an acre in size, were quickly suppressed and held in check.

Two helicopters are supporting suppression efforts, conducting water drops on hotspots and helping ground crews as needed.

The Tok River Fire (#289) Located roughly 10 miles south of Tok, The Tok river fire is currently at 314 acres and staffed by approximately 17 personnel. Firefighters are working to hold the western flank and prevent it from pushing closer to the Glenn Highway – Tok Cutoff. Efforts remain focused on containment and keeping the highway open.

Tractor Trail Fire (#334) is a new fire reported on Monday June 23rd near the tree line to the southwest of Northway airport and is now estimated at 40 acres. The fire, located approximately 9 miles southwest from the Northway Junction, is burning in mixed hardwood fuels. 12 smokejumpers and 2 helicopters responded quickly.
