Hawaii, Alaska, West Coast Threatened By Possible Tsunami
Russia Had A Major Quake July 29th
Warning sirens began to sound in Hawaii at 3:23 pm Hawaian time, with an "official wave arrival" time of a tsunami at 7:10 pm after a very large 8.7 earthquake occurred in Russia on July 29th, 2025.
According to Hawaiian authoritities this could be a big one, and could cause damage on all islands in the state of Hawaii. The state is saying that "urgent action" is needed to protect lives and property in Hawaii.
There are several levels of danger when there's a tidal wave. A tsunami "watch" is the lowest. Next is an "advisory" which is dangerous, but not all-encompassing. Finally, there's a tsunami "warning" which means that "widespread inundation" is probably imminent, and evacuation is necessary.
(It's something like Alaskan fire warnings, with Ready, Steady, and then, finally, Go, as Alaskan forest fires bear down on a community.)
The eastern Aleutians in Alaska are also faced with a "tsunami warning" advisory out near the end of the chain.
