Denali Park Hosts Many J-1 Visa College Workers Every Summer From Bulgaria & Other Countries
Troopers say that a 24-year-old man was killed at a fatal car-moose wreck on the Parks Highway near the Denali National Park entrance sign in the early morning hours of August 1st, 2025, at 1 a.m..
It was after midnight when the accident occurred at Mile 235 of the Parks. The driver, who was from Bulgaria, was pronounced dead on the scene. His female passenger was from Macedonia, a nearby country, and was injured and taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
This summer season, a large number of young Bulgarian and Macedonian "J-1 Visa" college workers are in various parts of Alaska, working with tourism industry businesses on special work visas. Bulgarian workers are especially popular due to their work ethic, and come back year after year.
Increasingly, Macedonian workers are also popular. The reports did not say that these were J-1 Visa temporary staff, but did say that the Bulgarian Embassy has been notified.
Troopers warned drivers to watch for moose and caribou, especially in the evenings.
