Community Survey Being Solicited About Our Regional Transportation Needs
Copper River Valley, Alaska – July 30, 2025 – The Copper River Valley – Regional Planning Organization (CRV-RPO), a committee of the Copper Valley Development Association (CVDA), is inviting residents to help shape the region’s transportation future by participating in a new community survey and attending upcoming road show events as part of the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) process.

The LRTP is a 20-year roadmap that will help guide investments in roads, airports, trails, and transportation services across the Copper River Valley. The LRTP is a vital tool for communicating regional priorities to the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and ensuring that local voices are heard. This plan is built on community input—what matters most to residents will directly influence the goals, priorities, and projects included.
“We’re asking everyone in the Copper Valley to take ten minutes to share their thoughts,” said Jason Hoke, Executive Director of CVDA. “Whether you want better access to medical care, more rest areas, improved airport facilities, or stronger support for tourism, your voice matters. This is your chance to shape the future of transportation in our region.”
The community survey is available online at https://arcg.is/1CnHSj3. Paper copies can be requested by emailing info@coppervalley.org. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.
To further engage with residents, the CRV-RPO team will hit the road in August for a community road show, starting with a visit to McCarthy on August 15, 2025 at the McCarthy Lodge. Doors will open at 5 PM and the meeting will begin at 6 PM. Additional meetings will be held in Chitina, Slana, Glennallen, Kenny Lake, and Gakona (dates to be announced). These events are open to the public and offer opportunities for in-person discussion and feedback.
The CRV-RPO encourages everyone to stay informed and involved:

Mr. Hoke encourages everyone to participate. “You, the community,” he said, “tell us what you want to prioritize.”
The Copper Valley Development Association (CVDA) serves the Copper River region, an area over 20,000 square miles with a population of only 2,997. CVDA functions as a partnership among public and private community interests to address natural resource and economic development opportunities. CVDA does this through
information gathering and dissemination and by operating as a regional liaison. Partnering with state, federal, tribal, and private entities who work in the unorganized area, CVDA is focused on increasing self-sufficiency, business retention, natural resource development, and wise use of sustainable resources for the Copper Valley now and for the future.
