Alaska Department of Health Reports December Surge

December 29, 2025

The Alaska Department of Health has said that the number of reported and confirmed cases of influenza has jumped in December.

Last year, February was the month when flu cases took off. In 2022, flu cases rose a little sooner, but they peaked in December.

Looking at the number of cases by region, it seems that Anchorage is leading the way.

Nationally, the CDC says there have been around 4.6 million cases of the flu, and almost 50,000 hospitalizations this year. An estimated 2,000 people have died from flu so far.

The highest rates of flu right now are in Colorado and Louisiana. Most severe cases are still in the east and midwest.
