During the winter months, CVEA generates approximately 70% of its power from fuel and 30% from hydroelectric sources. Because CVEA does not have control over fuel prices, recent increases in diesel costs directly affect the cost of power. Over the past month, diesel fuel prices have increased by roughly 45%. As a result, the cost of power will increase by approximately 4.83 cents per kWh compared to February. For the average residential member, this equates to an increase of about $20 per month.

If additional fuel is required for generation, fuel prices fluctuate, or more hydropower becomes available, a rate adjustment may be needed in April. CVEA will continue to monitor these factors closely.
We recommend all prepaid members monitor their account balances diligently and maintain sufficient credit balances during this transition. For more information about rates, please contact the Copper Basin office at 907-822-3211, the Valdez office at 907-835-4301, or email customerservice@cvea.org.
