PRESS RELEASE, APRIL 17TH, 2026
(Anchorage, Alaska) – Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) is now ranked the #1 cargo airport in the United States and #3 in the world, according to the latest rankings from Airports Council International World.
These rankings reaffirm Anchorage’s critical role in global commerce and its position as America’s leading cargo hub.
Anchorage continues to rank among the world’s most important cargo airports, driven by ANC’s strategic location on the great circle route, operational efficiency, and unique role connecting Asia, North America, and beyond.
“ANC continues to prove that Alaska is at the center of global commerce,” said Angie Spear, Director of the Alaska International Airport System. “Being ranked among the world’s busiest cargo airports reflects the strength of our tenants, airline partners, workforce, and the strategic advantages only Anchorage can offer.”
Why Anchorage Matters Globally
ANC’s unique location allows aircraft to reach nearly 90% of the industrialized world within a single 9.5-hour flight, making it one of the most efficient cargo transfer points on Earth.
The airport serves as a key hub for:
• Transpacific cargo operations
• E-commerce and express freight movement
• Temperature-sensitive and time-critical shipments
• Global supply chain resiliency
• Refueling, crew changes, and technical stops
Investing in the Future
Alaska International Airport System (AIAS) continues to invest in infrastructure to support existing customers and growing demand, including:
• Additional hardstand development
• Airfield modernization
• Cargo apron enhancements
• Utility and pavement improvements
• Long-term cargo expansion planning
These investments are designed to ensure Anchorage remains competitive and capable of supporting the next generation of global cargo operations.
Alaska’s Global Gateway
While many know Anchorage for passenger travel, its cargo role is of global significance. Every day, goods moving through ANC help support businesses, consumers, and communities around the world.
“Anchorage’s rise to the nation’s top cargo airport highlights Alaska’s critical role in global supply chains,” said Ryan Anderson, Commissioner of Alaska DOT&PF. “By continuing to invest in our aviation infrastructure and partnerships, we’re strengthening a system that drives economic opportunity across the state.”
