The home of Brenda Tyone burned down on the afternoon of Saturday, June 11th. The Gakona Volunteer Fire Department responded.
There are reports from friends of the family that one person was rescued from the building as it burned. Nobody was hurt.
"The fire was put out. It was a complete loss," said Fire Chief Jason Severs at 8 pm.
Electricity was cut off temporarily in the area, for safety reasons.
Said Travis Million, CEO of Copper Valley Electric:
"Regarding the outage last Saturday; It was reported to our dispatch that there was a house on fire that has spread and was impeding on our poles. We opened the feeder to prevent any further damage and to allow for emergency responders to work on the fire. The feeder was opened at the Glennallen Diesel Plant due to it being the closest remotely operated device. It was opened for approximately 2 hours while our crew responded from Valdez and it affected approximately 260 members."
